Next weekend’s Community Appreciation Picnic for Bay Harbor Islands residents will have an artistic twist: the unveiling of a Romero Britto sculpture, which will then be installed in a median on Kane Concourse. The picnic, taking place from 1 to 5 p.m. May 7 in the field on 95th Street between Bay Harbor Terrace and West Bay Harbor Drive, will kick off with an appearance by the neo-pop artist.
The colorful aluminum heart sculpture Britto will unveil was commissioned in 2004 by an anonymous donor as a way to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Bay Harbor Development Association, which represents the town’s business community.
'’We wanted this to be a community event so the citizens could express appreciation and welcome Britto to our community,'’ Vice Mayor Kenneth Weinstein said.
Admission is free to town residents, but tickets are required. Call Town Hall at 305-866-6241.
