In 1922, the queen of etiquette, Mrs. Emily Post, had declared that only eight anniversaries required traditional gifts. Studies show though, that as early as the 1800’s there was a more traditional gift given each year for the first fifteen years, and then a traditional gift given for every 5 years following that, except for the 65th and 70th wedding anniversary.

Nobody knows for sure as to why gifts are not given for the 65th and 70th wedding anniversary, mayby it was to give husband’s a break
There are hundreds of things you could choose to give your spouse for the year you are celebrating. For example, if it is your first year anniversary, don’t go and get your spouse a sheet of paper, and say “happy anniversary, I love you,” do something more heartfelt and special. Try a handmade sheet of paper with a letter written on it, or a pack of stationary, things like that. Make the anniversary as memorable as possible, while standing next to the traditional anniversary gifts
